The text search engines above allow queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example, we will be searching for master mason

master mason

finds documents containing 'master' or 'mason'

master or mason

same as above

master and mason

finds documents containing both 'master' and 'mason'

master not mason

finds documents containing 'master' but not 'mason'

(master not mason) and WAIS

finds documents containing 'WAIS', plus 'master' but not 'mason'
