MOTION ON THE FLOORCHAPTER xIvTHE WORSHIPFUL MASTER'S HANDBOOKGrand Lodge, F.A.A.M. of the District of ColumbiaTypically, a brother will make a motion from the floor. You as Master should then ask for someone to second the motion. Then you would invite discussion on the motion. If there is no further discussion you should call for a vote which can either be done orally - "all in favor say aye ,.. opposed nay, (or all in favor will signify it by the ancient voting sign of a Master Mason ... opposed, same sign.)" If the motion passes, you should rap once and say, "The ayes have it or (the Motion passes), so ordered Brother Secretary." Remember that you are in charge of the Lodge and Roberts Rules of Order are not binding upon you as Master. NOTE: The Master controls the business of the Lodge and may elect not to receive a motion from the sideline provided that he does not conduct the business of the Lodge in such a manner as to deceive the brethren. |
